Help Bring Big Lottery Money To The Estate

The-Butterfly-Effect-Logo-Vote-Castle-Vale

Active Arts Castle Vale has made it to the final shortlist of just 6 projects for the ITV Central West News vote of The People’s Millions.  That’s a big achievement already.

But they don’t have the money yet.  They will need the people of Castle Vale and all our wider friends to pick up the phone and vote for the project on Tuesday 25th November 2014.

What better way to end the Year of Celebration with a launch of a new project The Butterfly Effect?

To keep up to date with the campaign and to get the phone number on vote day please start following the Active Arts website and get involved through their Facebook pages.  This is where all the information will be shared.

Help bring £50,000 to Castle Vale and help make something amazing happen in 2015.

Thank you from the 2014 Festival team

After it being such a big part of our lives for the last couple of months it’s been very strange for the planning team behind Caste Vale Festival to go back to our normal day jobs/roles this last week.

A big thank you to all of those who helped out behind the scenes, contributed to the event and came along.

We’ve had some photos and messages via Facebook and twitter and we’d love to hear some more.  We are perfectionists, so no-one has been thinking about what we could have done differently more than us and anyone who wants to can send in thoughts as well.  Considering the weather and lots of other things to contend with, the event had some amazing highlights; meeting new people at the Big Lunches; Live & Local performers; some great cakes in the Bake Off; Live & Loud line up and the fantastic performances in the Closing Ceremony.

We are still collating images and all the stories from the two days but here’s a little sample above.  We’ll be posting more over the next few weeks from the event so keep a look out and send us your pictures to include if you have them.

Fun day with a hint of country fair, with a surprising concert topping

That’s what Day 2 is of the Castle Vale Festival.  We’ve taken the best of the things we know you’ve liked of previous events and then more.  If this was a cake you’d be thinking this sounds like one of those weird creations and then be asking for more slices and when’s the next one being made.

Kicking off at 12pm we’ve got stalls, fun zone, old fashioned sports games and arts area that give you lots of choice to keep you entertained for as long as you wish.  Big features of the afternoon include the Junior and Senior football matches in the Vale Stadium as part of the Castle Vale Shield.  Plus for the buddying bakers our very own Great Castle Vale Bake Off that you can see, taste and see who’s won.

The Lord Mayor is joining us at 5pm to give out prizes and introduce the Closing Ceremony which has seen young people come together to create a fun and energetic performance that rounds off the Year of Celebration.  It also shows off a new centre piece CV3, which artists have been spraying into creation over the last 2 days.

Topping off the whole festival is Live & Loud: a musical feast with so many great acts we can’t believe what we’ve been able to put together for you.  Back from last night is Shelley Smith (X Factor), who wowed the crowd with her incredibly powerful voice.  Plus we have other fantastic solo performances from Kitty Bucknell (X Factor) and Jessica Steele (The Voice and Britain’s Got Talent) plus group performances from popular up and coming acts EverYoung, MiCLowry, Stateside and of course Kingsland Road (X Factor) headlining.

No excuse, not even the weather, as our Big Top is a brilliant venue for all this plus remember Vale Stadium bar is open from 12-12 today.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Castle Vale Day Is Here

Castle Vale Day 2014

Today Friday 19th September is Castle Vale Day 2014.

It’s a day where we ask for people to be proud of where they live or work and if you’re not from the area to come down and visit us and meet a few people.

You can do this in 3 ways today.

1. Decorate the estate – all day
Flags, bunting, or whatever ideas you have to get involved in the spirit of the day.  Click the weblink above for ideas and the bunting template if you fancy making something quick this morning.  You can also buy a pin badge to show your involvement either at The Sanctuary, CVCHA and now on site at The Big Top.

2. The Big Lunch – 1pm-2pm – £2.50
Visit The Sanctuary and enjoy a jacket potato and fillings with a drink or St Cuthbert’s Church for either soup or spaghetti bolognese plus a drink.  We hear there maybe some tasty cakes as well!
*Please note there’s no Big Lunch at Vale Stadium as previously advertised but we highly recommend one of the other two.

3. Live and Local – 6pm-9pm – £3
See some fantastic local talent including Generations choir, the Youngstars, Vale’s Got Talent winner 2014 Laura Green and special Guest Shelley Smith who was an  X Factor finalist in 2014.

Plus why don’t you tell us about your experiences today and anything you decide to do.  For example we know that Tiggy Winkles Nurseries are getting involved by dressing up as butterflies and having their own Big Lunch with invited parents today.

We are now set up on site – which some of you may have noticed with our signature purple and white circus tent – so do come and visit us especially if you want to find out more and meet the team behind the event.

Finally a reminder to get baking if you haven’t done yet – I have some judges who are looking forward to trying those tasty cakes! For more details check out the Great Castle Vale Bake Off.

We Need You To Join In

Yes that’s right, Castle Vale Festival has lots of things you can see but there’s also something we need your help with.

On Saturday afternoon we will be launching a new piece of artwork created with young people locally called CV3.  It’ll be the centre piece of the Closing Ceremony for the Year of Celebration that will see young people is an exciting new performance created especially for the weekend.

We thought that seeming as the Year of Celebration has not only been about celebrating Castle Vale but inspiring people to come and visit us and get involved, that we should finish with as many people as possible joining in with the experience.

So just as you’d sing along to the last chorus of a song we’ve got a little something you can learn to join in with the festivities.  We’re not calling it a dance – it’s moving to music and having a good time.

Very easy to pick up and to help you our friends at Highly Sprung have filmed it for you to practise in the secret of your own home or out at the local club ready for this Saturday.

You can also have a practise Saturday afternoon (20th September) at the festival 12pm-4pm before the Closing Ceremony starts at 5pm.

Look forward to seeing you there (that’s code for get practicing and get your family and friends down to join in) and we hope we can make this the biggest mass gathering in Castle Vale.

Enjoying Bake Off Season? Get Involved Yourself

keep-calm-and-bake-off

So it’s become tradition at this time of year for a large majority of the country to become fixated by cakes, bread and other baked goods.  Who are we in Castle Vale to not join in with this?  It made perfect sense therefore to add to the Festival this year the Great Castle Vale Bake Off.

The event is open to anyone who wants to come along with something special to show off and in search of a prize – you don’t need to be from Castle Vale.

Earlier this year we had a smaller event with CVCHA and CVCRS staff baking and decorating to raise funds for John Taylor Hospice and we had great fun.  This time it’s opened up to all and we will have prizes for the best cake made by someone Under 18 and the best cake in the adult category.  Plus as there’s going to be so much good cake on offer we are happy for cakes to be donated and slices to be served at the event in return for a small donation to the Last Leaf sculpture.

So what are you waiting for?  Get thinking of an idea and get baking.

Below and downloadable are the rules and we ask that you register in advance via the website link here or by completing a form that can be found at CVCHA on the Hight Street or The Sanctuary on Tangmere Drive.
